Your Globe-Trotting Thanksgiving Extravaganza Starts Right Here – Esquire

Doron Wong, the chef at Yunnan Kitchen in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, grew up with Thanksgiving a little sideways. His mother was from Hong Kong and she wanted her children to have an understanding of American culture, so she made sure they celebrated the major holidays. She never cooked American food, but she’d serve turkey on Thanksgiving and ham on Christmas. She’d prepare all the components of the traditional spread, except she’d marinate the turkey with garlic, Chinese wine, sugar, soy sauce, and Maggi.
