Hundreds marched through the Puerto Rican capital San Juan, Sunday, rallying against what they called US imperialism and capitalism. They also urged the release of incarcerated Oscar Lopez Rivera. The key figure in the Puerto Rican independence movement of the 1970s was sentenced to 55 years for seditious conspiracy in 1981. Protesters held Puerto Rican and Puerto Rican Independence Party flags as well as banners with slogans reading “Independence, freedom for Oscar Lopez” and “Colonialism: A crime under USA flag” on them.
