Ivonne Coll, ‘Jane the Virgin’ star, to receive Puerto Rican Day Parade Lifetime Achievement Award

She’s been a beauty queen, a variety show host and a star of stage, screen and TV.

Now, Ivonne Coll – otherwise known as Alba Villanueva, Gina Rodriguez’s abuela on the CW’s “Jane the Virgin” – will receive a lifetime achievement award from the National Puerto Rican Day Parade for her long and varied career.

“It was a very big surprise for me to receive this award,” says Coll, 67, a native of Fajardo, Puerto Rico, who appeared on Broadway in such Joseph Papp-produced Shakespeare plays as “Romeo and Juliet” in the mid-’80s.
