FLAG THIS EVENT: New York City’s Puerto Rican Day Parade unfurls June 14

Thousands enjoy the Puerto Rican Day Parade on Fifth Ave in Manhattan on June 8, 2014. The annual parade returns to NYC on Sunday.

The big day Puerto Ricans in the New York area wait for all year long is finally around the corner.

Yes, it’s time once again for the National Puerto Rican Day Parade.

The celebrations of Boricua pride have been piling up in the last few weeks – highlights included the parade’s festival on 152 St. in the Bronx and a march to request the freedom of jailed activist Oscar Lopez Rivera – but nothing replaces the main event, considered the largest demonstration of ethnic pride in the country.
