FedEx Earnings: What to Watch – WSJ

FedEx Corp. is scheduled to announce its first-quarter earnings before the market opens Wednesday. Here’s what you need to know:

EARNINGS FORECAST: Net income of $2.46 a share is the consensus of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters, compared with $2.10 reported a year earlier. The company hasn’t provided guidance for the first quarter, but in June said it expects adjusted per-share earnings to be between $10.60 and $11.10 per share for the year.

REVENUE FORECAST: Revenue of $12.3 billion is forecast, compared with $11.7 billion reported the year earlier.

—HOLIDAYS: Investors will be looking for more clarity form FedEx on its holiday plans as it starts to ramp up for peak season. Rival United Parcel Service Inc. outlined some cost-cutting measures in its most recent earnings call and said it may charge some customers more if they exceed forecasts. Investors will be waiting to see if FedEx follows, as well as looking for some clarity on its hiring and spending forecasts for the all-important holiday season.
