Cuomo, Clinton, Rubio Appear in Puerto Rico Ahead of Restructuring Plan’s Release – US News

High-profile politicians from across the political spectrum have descended on Puerto Rico in recent days as the island’s government prepares to unveil a restructuring plan that could include unpopular budget restrictions and tax increases.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo traveled to the U.S. territory this week to meet with Puerto Rican officials to help the island manage its whopping $72 billion in outstanding debt. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, a GOP presidential candidate, and Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton have also visited the island in recent days, though Cuomo’s trip appeared to be aimed less at campaigning and more at finding a solution.
