(AP) — A Connecticut lawmaker is upset that the state-funded Amistad schooner is sailing to Puerto Rico for the filming of a TV miniseries during hurricane season. State Rep. Diana Urban, D-North Stonington, told The Day of New London (http://bit.ly/19vaXh6 ) that she was assured the Amistad — Connecticut’s official flagship and tall ship ambassador — wouldn’t set sail until after hurricane season ends in November. Urban said she was told in June by Christopher “Kip” Bergstrom, deputy commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development, that the state had an agreement with Amistad America that the vessel wouldn’t go to Puerto Rico until late this year. State officials are looking into how state funds for the Amistad have been spent.
