Latino Arts and Culture Celebration brings together community on Aug. 1-2

CLEVELAND, Ohio — More than 1,000 people are expected to watch and participate in the 47th annual Puerto Rican Parade next week in Downtown Cleveland.

The parade is a part of the Latino Arts and Culture Celebration of Greater Cleveland, which will be held Aug. 1-2 this year.

At least 400 vehicles, many of them decorated to celebrate the island's culture, are expected to take part in the parade, which kicks off at East 13th Street and Superior Avenue and ends in the municipal parking lot. It begins at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 2.

Sunday was a day of national pride for Puerto Ricans in New York City.

 Thousands of people lined up the streets of Fifth Avenue over the weekend to celebrate the 57th Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City. Despite the muggy weather, it was a day filled with dancing, flag waving and coming together of those with ties to Puerto Rico.

The Grand Marshall of the parade was legendary actress and Broadway star Rita Moreno, according to The Associated PressMoreno's Oscar-winning performance as Anita in "West Side Story" won the hearts of Puerto Ricans everywhere. Moreno even got into the action by dancing with New York's Archbishop Timothy Dolan.
